lunch in w. ho @ kings road cafe

so, my friend jason recommended kings road cafe a while back and when my friend tracey and her friend tania were visiting here for holiday from melbourne, i thought this would be a great place to just check out for lunch.  this is just a little cafe with basic american fare, sandwiches, salads, breakfast etc.

the girls both got salad...

chipotle chicken salad for tracey...

i didn't try it, but tracey said it was good.  the portion was very large and it was so interesting to hear tracey and tania's perspective on food here in the states versus how it is in australia.  our serving sizes are really big here and many people tend to take food home.  whereas in australia, the portions are much smaller and they do not allow people to take leftovers home.  how would texans react to this?!  =)

tania had the shrimp and scallop salad...

again, a very generous portion...i did in fact just taste the salad...it was ok for me...nothing spectacular.

now for my rotesserie chicken panini sandwich...

with fontina cheese, garlic aioli, avocado and caramelized onion on focaccia bread.  this panini sandwich was so delicious.  it wasn't on your typical sourdough bread slices.  i loved the soft focaccia they used.  what i liked most was the combination of ingredients, the sweetness from the caramelized onions, creamy texture from the avocado and cheese and a hint of garlic, but it wasn't super strong in anyway.  i did have to put a little seasoning on it, but overall i just completely enjoyed this sandwich and would eat it again.

of course i was in the mood for some dessert...

chocolate cake with chocolate mousse....the ganache and mousse helped give the cake the extra moistness it needed.  this was just the perfect amount of sweet chocolatey goodness i needed to finish my meal.  it wasn't super sweet either.

tania had the new york cheesecake...

and a latte to finish...

if i'm in the area and want to get something light to eat...i would come back and get that yummy panini sandwich again!  but i might try some breakfast items next time.

i had such a lovely time catching up with tracey after almost 6 years?  i'm not even sure what year it was when i went to china and met her in macau.  but it was so nice to sit down and have lunch with her and tania before they went home to australia.  funny thing i forgot to mention...i chose the restaurant because it was close to their hotel and on my friends recommendation...not knowing that she had come to l.a. a few months back on business and happened to eat at kings road cafe.  haha  what are the odds of that?!

thank you tracey and tania!!  i had such a lovely lunch with the two of you!
